Learning Java Language, Why Not ?

There is circumstantial concern and care if us behold and perceive desire and enthusiasm will from our young men in this time impressing do not care again with growth of Javanese. Including myself, possible. Is though confessed or we do not born and enlarged in this Java land;ground. We exactly will feel more and “ngetrend” if have can and fluent have foreign Ianguage like Ianguage of inggris, and will be looked into bizzare if (there are) any young man of skilled Java have Javanese, and can write in Javanese truly. Why yes ? Because Javanese have been assumed ancient and bizzare, so that it is possible that some years to the fore pride Ianguages of society this Java will disappear from everyday conversation. Is it possible that ?

Though Javanese are very rich Ianguage with exchequer of word. There is 3 Ianguage level which used in everyday conversation, that is :
1. First level = Ianguage of ngoko. Used for conversation with people which coeval (ad for his)
2. Level both = Ianguage of krama / kromo Used for conversation with older people of us, like sister.
3. Third level = Ianguage of krama inggil . Used for conversation with people which we respect, like parent, teacher, functionary,etc.
I make this streaks, is not mean my skilled and understand correct will indepth Javanese, not at all, only bothering about of is continuity of itself Javanese. I recognize Javanese by more detail when education in bench of SLTP. Why, in here I am like getting the spirit of newly to learn Javanese by more circumstantial. Unhappily when me enter SLTA, Iesson of Javanese have shall no longger be taught, so that knowledge hereinafter only me get from family environment and society. Okey, that a small part of "uneg-uneg" which in my mind in this time. My expectation hopefully simple streak can useful for all of us. Amiin.

The Legend of Aji Saka


In The Kingdom of Medang Kamulan, in Java, came a young wise man, by the name of Aji Saka to fight Dewatacengkar, the cruel King of The Country who had a habit to eat human flesh of his own people. Aji Saka himself he came from Bumi Majeti. One day he told his two servants, by the name of Dora and Sembodo, that he was going to Java. He told them that while he was away, both of them have to guard his Heirloom / Pusoko. No one except Aji Saka himself not a allowed to take the Pusoko. In the big battle, Aji Saka could successfully push Dewata Cengkar to fall to the South Sea. Dewata Cengkar did not die, he became a Bajul Putih (White Crocodile). Aji Saka became a ruler of Medangkamulan.
Meanwhile a woman of the village of Dadapan, found an egg. She put the egg in her Lumbung (Rice Barn). After a certain period the egg vanished, instead a snake found in the rice barn. The villagers would like to kill the snake, but the snake said : "I'm the son of Aji Saka, bring me to him".
Aji Saka told the snake, that he would be recognized as his son, if he could kill the Bajul Putih in the South Sea. After a long stormy battle which both sides demonstrating phisycal strenght and showing skillfull ability of fighting, the snake could kill Bajul Putih.

As had been promised the snake was recognized as Aji Saka's son and he was given a name Jaka Linglung ( a stupid boy).
In the palace Jaka Linglung greedily ate domestic pets of the palace. He was punished by the King, expelling him to live in the Jungle of Pesanga. He was tightly roped until he could not move his head. He was instructed only to eat things which fall to his mouth.
One day, a group of 9 (nine) village boys were playing around in that Jungle. Suddenly it was raining heavily. They had to find a shelter, luckily there was a cave. Only 8 (eight) boys went inside the cave, the other one who was suffering from very bad skin disease, sting and dirty, he had to stay out of the cave. All of a sudden, the cave was falling apart, The 8 (eight) boys vanished, only the one who stayed outside was safe. The cave in fact was the mouth of Jaka Linglung.
The Simbolic Meaning of Aji Saka's Legend
1. A Man from Bumi Majeti. Majeti is acronym of :
Ma = Ketrima (accepted)
Jet = Grenjet (sincere wish)
Ti = Pangesti (a solemn pray)
Meaning : A man with sincere wish and solemn pray is accepted by God
2. Aji Saka was accompanied by Dora and Sembodo
Meaning human beings as the creature of God usually has two manners :
Bad Manners - Dora , Good Manners - Sembodo
3. He was going to Java
Java : A wise man who always worship God, so he is always protected by Him
Pusoko : Heirlooms or holy things.
4. Medang Kamulan
Kamulan from Mula - Beginning
A Place where people worship the Creator who has created the beginning of life.
5. The woman of Dadapan Village who put an egg in her barn. The egg disappeared and a snake appeared.
This sentence simbolizing that an adult woman could be pregnant, in her womb, then a baby was born.
6. The snake / the baby was brought to Aji Saka - his father.
Meaning that a baby must be well taken care by his parents.
7. The boy could kill the white crocodile and was name Jaka Linglung (Stupid Boy)
This sentences would like to explain that :
The child before being a grown up (21 years old), he is Linglung (stupid) means he is dependant of his parents.
He could kill the white crocodile, the boy became an independent man, taking care of his own life.
Dewata Cengkar : a grown up man who has no ability to take care of his own life, he still bothers his parents.
8. Jaka Linglung was thrown away to the Jungle of Pesanga, tightly roped until he could not move his head, Symbolizing :
He has to search his own food and necessities, means he has to work.
He has to use his head or brain to fulfill his demand. The Jungle of Pesanga, Pesanga means 9 (nine).
He could work everywhere in the eight directions of the World, but he should always remember one thing, that is the blessing of God.

9. The 9 (nine) village boys. The one who is sick and dirty was not allowed to enter the Cave
meaning : All the necessities of life must be a result of a good descent job, the dirty things is forbidden.
The Symbolic Meaning of Dentawiyanjana (The 20 letters)
Hanacaraka : There are envoys ( a couple - a man & a woman from God the Creator)
Datasawala : They should do everything upon his instruction.
Padajayanya : Both are the winners with equal status, they live in harmony caring each other
Magabatanga : They completely serve the will of God. Their souls and bodies belong to God (Sumarah)


This symbolizing the beginning of the existence of human life, everything was so holy. Things begin to change when additional letters of i, e, u, o, etc were introduced. Those letters are named "sandangan " (clothes) in Javanese.
The children became adults, they start feeling the pleasure touch of skin to skin (sexual relationships). The wrong - doings, cheating, pretending, lust, greediness, cruelty which bring sickness and calamity are becoming common practice. Many people are only developing rough feeling of five-senses through eyes, nose, mouth, ears and skin. They forget the pure life, so the light of life becomes blur, not clear. The human beings live in a place where there is cold and hot weather, there are sadness and happiness. In order to prevent further sins and calamity, the Rule of Life ( Paugeraning urip) was introduced. So that people should remember His Creator and behave accordingly. Among other thing was the Rule of Marriage, family responsibility, human relations etc.
A man has to pray to God, that's mean that he has to worship God and that he has to command the five-senses.
A man has to do fasting sometimes, it's God's order, that's mean that he has to control the five-senses.
The desire of the five-senses must be aimed to do only positive things for the man himself and other people.
The 'sandangan' (clothes) of Dentawiyanjana are depicting evil temptation.
It should be easier for a man seeking life purification if he could throw away the 'sandangan' that is to say to be free from evil temptation. The Javanese terminology for this philosophy is 'Ngracut-Busono' (ngracut = to take-off ; busono = clothes).
Note : In the writing-book, the Javanese letters are written under the lines (not above) from left to right. Symbolizing that Javanese people is low profile people.

The words Aji Saka could mean :
Aji = King/ruler
Saka = Pillar of Javanese house

Javanese Characters

In The Palaces / Kratons of Yogya and Solo, as well as some buildings or sites with close relation to Kratons some sign written in Javanese characters can be seen. Nowadays in some parts of Central Java especially in Yogya and Solo, the street names are written with Latin and Javanese letters also the City buses "Bis Kota" It is a positive measure by local society to preserve an ancient literature heritage.
Even in the remote village of Pantaran, on the eastern slope of Mount Merbabu, the villagers are preserving the Javanese characters by writing their names in the gates in front of their houses.
The Javanese upon seeing the characters, should spontaneously remember the legend of Ajisaka of Medang Kamulan Kingdom dated back 1930 Years ago. The year of 1997 is equivalent to Saka Year 1930.

The Javanese letters in fact are not only used in Central and East Java, but it is also used in West Java as they call it Hanacaraka. It is a proof that in the ancient period, the people of Java, no matter where they live in the West, Central and East Java, they had one and similar culture.
Since the Javanese as well as Sundanese, (West Java) Languages are written with Latin letters, less and less people could read and write with Hanacaraka. At schools there is no intensive lessons using this letters. This situation is disappointing. Some efforts have to be taken to improve this situation, considering the facts that Hanacaraka is a part of Javanese literature, literature in Javanese is Sastra, and Sastra does not mean only literature but also knowledge. And for Javanese, knowledge does not mean only ordinary knowledge but also a knowledge of life (Kawruh).

Most of the human being breath by chest its means to go up and down of breathing by breast or chest. Breathing really is the lungs activities but the lungs can not to go up and down breathing it self to absorb and throw away those air. So that the atmosphere were less absorbed by the lungs. By that way, good for someone to breath by to go up and down his stomach breathing is natural breathing. This event way accurate when the people were child. He did it as humanistic instinctive biologic after he was adult. Someone study how to breath by moving his chest.
The lungs contain by millionaires lungs vesicles and surrounded by the blood streaming. By stomach breathing style, more the air can insert to the lungs so the air tension in the vesicles to the red blood cells which the low tension. This event will influence the numeral of hemoglobin blood. So, by the accurate of breathing will create the stability of numeral hemoglobin.

Pregnant breathing means to sport all the organs in our stomach. It will make fluently of distributing the blood to all abdomen frame works organs in the end absorb and distribution of meal will be accurate as well. The abdomen breathing is also very good function for curing all the diseases inside the stomach.
The heart takes the blood which contains of the oxygen from the lungs and pumps the oxygen to the all network blood vessels in our body.
Later the heart takes the blood which contains by carbon dioxide and the pump insert the lungs, so the oxygen which be absorbed through the breath is very much need by our blood.
The brain is the vital organ which need the take care and maintenance. The lost oxygen more fine will effect the brain defective. The good breathing will give much function able to supplement the brain net vessel system with the blood big vessel and very healthy so the supplying meals and oxygen will be easier to insert the brain net vessel. Good breathing will caused the biochemical reaction in the blood vessel. This event will make easier to rise out the energy which caused by the less volume of electron thinking.
The thinking electron which is lost of this volume made it jumping inside the miner essence, mean while it throws the energy to be light inside the inner.
Breathing is law of nature and needed by all the life creatures, included the animal and plantation, even by breathing made in nature to be stabile and balancing. Why own God said that everything the plant is grown up has balancing laws.
Let we proof it, all the plantation breath by absorbing carbon dioxide and bring outside the oxygen. This oxygen is very needed by animal and human being, if the animal and the human being absorb the oxygen. This essence will be lost and all the creatures will die, but all the ________ product the oxygen so that create the balancing in this world.

Gamelan, the Javanese Orchestra



Gamelan is the music created by integrating voices of gong, kenong and other Javanese music instruments. Soft music that reflects the life harmony of Javanese people will soon greet and calm the soul down once someone is listening to it.
Gamelan is surely not a foreign music. It has been popular in most continents and has created new music integration, for example jazz-gamelan, has born institution as learning space and gamelan music expression and it has produced famous gamelan musicians. Gamelan music instrument can now be enjoyed in various parts of the world, but Yogyakarta is the right place to enjoy it since you can enjoy the original version of gamelan.

Gamelan that grows in Yogyakarta is Javanese gamelan, one form of gamelan that is different from Balinese gamelan or Sundanese gamelan. Javanese gamelan has softer and slower tones; it is different from Balinese gamelan that is very dynamic and Sundanese gamelan that is melodious with domination of the voice of seruling or traditional bamboo flute. The difference is just natural since Java has its own view of life that is expressed in its gamelan music melody.
The Javanese view of life that is expressed in its gamelan music is the harmony of physical and spiritual lives, harmony in talking as well as behaving in order not to create explosive expression and to realize people tolerance. The real form of harmony in Javanese gamelan music is the moderate play of rebab string, voice harmony of kenong, saron kendang and gambang and the voice of gong ate each closing of the melody.
There is no definite history of gamelan existence. The development of gamelan music is predicted to begin from the existence of kentongan, rebab, tap on the mouth, rubs on string and thin bamboo until the introduction of metal music instruments. Further development after named by gamelan, this music was used to accompany leather puppet show and dances. Later it became independent music and it was completed with voices of female singers called sinden.
A set of gamelan consists of several music instruments; some of them are drum called kendhang, rebab, and celempung, gambang, gong and bamboo flute or seruling. The main components composing the gamelan music instruments are bamboo, metal, and wood. Each of the instrument has its own function in a gamelan music show, for example the gong functioning to close the long music melodies and to give balance after the music was previously decorated by Javanese music melodies.
Javanese gamelan is music with pentatonic melodies. A complete gamelan play consists of two cycles, namely slendro and pelog. Slendro has 5 melodies per octave, namely 1 2 3 5 6 [C- D E+ G A] with small interval difference. Pelog has 7 melodies per octave namely 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 [C+ D E- F# A B] with big interval difference. Gamelan music composition was created with some rules, namely consists of some cycles and pathet, confined by one gong and the melodies were created in a unit consisting of 4 melodies.
You can see gamelan as an independent music performance or a companion of a dance or performance arts such as leather puppet show and ketoprak. As an independent performance, gamelan music is usually combined with the voice of the Javanese singers (male singers are called wiraswara and female singers are called waranggana or sinden). Gamelan music performance can be classic or contemporary. One form of contemporary gamelan is jazz-gamelan as a combination of music with pentatonic and diatonic melodies.
One of the places in Yogyakarta where you can see gamelan performance is Yogyakarta Kingdom. On Thursdays from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. gamelan is performed as an independent music performance. On Saturdays at the same hours, gamelan is performed as companion of leather puppet show, while on Sundays at the same hours, gamelan accompanies Javanese traditional dance. For Them citizen of Banyumas and its surroundings, surely have old stuff with typical traditional artistry of one this. Myself although is not original citizen of Purwokerto ( Banyumas), very with music of “Kenthongan” or of “tek-tekkan”. Early hearing and see I only can smile. Smile because presented attraction it is true funny,”unik” and very amuse. “Kenthongan” is made castanets of bamboo with kenthong as a means of the core important. The bamboo given the by long hole is side of and played with short wood stick (by beated). While grup kenthongan of itself consist of about 20 people equipped by equipments of bedug, flute, kecrek and led by a mayoret. This Mayoret is very nimble in leading (do not like mayoret generally), because entire/all his body shares (not only hand) follow to oscillate to follow sound of played song. warbled song even also usually area song or songs which is any marketing hits of his song type ( pop,rock,dandut).

Kenthong which used in one grup / the group there are some kinds of which is the each personnels use him so that yield harmonic sound. While for clothes which they use usually in the form of uniform/ typical custom clothes of area or other which provided with immeasurable of aksesoris. As society of Banyumas of course I make proper to have pride, because in the year just 2004 of this artistry succeed to break a record of MURI. Of course a lot of isn't it which they signalize by various separate individualities, like usage various utensil and furniture till ancient era as his him. It is not strange place of wisata this progressively crowded multitudeis visited either by all surounding citizens and other citizen which is coincidence are having the day off. Lengger Wonosobo

Lengger is a traditional artistry which remain to eksis in outskirts and still as artistry of “primadona” in area of Wonosobo.
